For all of you that are curious....


Well here goes nothing.... 

Since I post so many PICTURES on my Instagram and Facebook about the different types of products I use on a daily basis plus all of the amazing food I make for my family I get a lot of questions. Especially about my meal plans and what I make during the week to keep my nutrition on track.
I will tell you this first obviously I am not a nutritionist or a doctor of any kind but have done A LOT of research since starting Paleo back in August 2012 and I feel pretty good about what I put in my body. This type of diet really works for me also and I have truly never have felt better in my life. 

First, I will give you a little background on my diet before August 2012. When I first started Jowers Training Systems (JTSUFB) back in February 2012 to be honest I worked out to feel better about myself. I would eat ok but then I would go out to eat all the time eating tons of Taco Bell, Applebees & other types of authentic Mexican food. I would also cook a few times a week and always go out to lunch. I was very unhappy and was always sick to my stomach after I ate. It got so bad I went to the doctor and asked them why I was getting so sick and asked for allergy testing. Of course the doctor said no to the testing and asked me a series of questions and did a few ultrasounds on my stomach and gall bladder. She determined I was lactose intolerant and told me I would take these lactose pills to help my body digest the dairy. If you know me at all you know that I don't take medicine even when I am sick. Not my style so that didn't work. After I was told I was lactose intolerant I stayed away from dairy ever since. It helped don't get me wrong but I continued to get sick. I mean I was sick within 15-20 minutes of eating and felt bad for my family because we would have to leave because I was so uncomfortable and in pain.


It has now been 6 months since this diet has changed my life. During the last 6 months I have not only changed my eating habits but have made TIME to make sure I keep myself on track. The biggest thing is TIME and PREPARATION. Every week I will sit down and plan either a Saturday or a Sunday to do my cooking for the week. I will make breakfast, snacks and lunches for myself and pack them all up. During the week I do also make dinner every night for my family because my husband doesn't eat left overs. So I will always have something different for dinner and sometimes I will make extra and take that to lunch the next day if there is leftovers. :)

Here is a glimpse into what I have been doing the last few weeks:

Breakfast prep
  • Paleo Pancakes with Bacon (Yes I said bacon)
  • Fully cooked microwavable bacon (Kirkland brand)
  • Cut peppers, mushrooms and onions for scrambled eggs in the morning 
  • Stock up on fruit for my morning protein shake

Snacks-  
  • Baby carrots 
  • Celery
  • Hard Boiled Eggs 
  • Guacamole
  • Fruit Leather (Costco)
  • Healthy N' Fit Chocolate/Vanilla Egg Protein from Vitamin Shoppe with Coconut water
  • Raw Almonds
  • Raw Walnuts
  • Almond Butter
Lunch- 
  • Jambalaya with Cauliflower rice
  • Chicken breast 
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus 
  • Bacon Meatloaf 
  • Homemade BBQ sauce 

This is the last two weeks of my meals obviously I do not take all of this every single day! I have been using my lovely lunch box from Six Pack Bags and making sure I have enough food to last me the day.

Monday- 

9:15am-
3 eggs scrambled with 3 slices of turkey meat, onions, peppers & bacon bits
2 small Paleo Pancakes 
2 slices of bacon

12:05pm- 
3 oz of bacon meatloaf (made Sunday night for dinner)
1 oz Homemade BBQ sauce
Broccoli & Asparagus
1 oz Mashed Sweet Potato 

4:45 pm-
Small bag of baby carrots
Home made guacamole (dip carrots in) 
2 Hard boiled eggs with green Tabasco sauce 

7:40pm-
4 oz. Alaskan Salmon 
8 Shrimp (deveined & tail off)
Broccoli 
Asparagus

9:30pm-
1 Banana
6 Celery 
2 tbs. Almond Butter

Here is an example of my eating yesterday to give you an idea of what I pack on a daily basis. When I start to workout more and harder I tend to eat more often more like every 2 hours instead of every 4 hours. 



I will try to get in the habit of posting my daily food intake on my blog if anyone is interested. Paleo isn't a diet that is so complex I promise you and if you are interested in joining me in my journey and giving it 100% please let me know. I am hear for you!

Results are in!

After 30 days of probably the hardest training program I have ever done in my LIFE I got my results tonight. Let's just say at first I was like dang it I didn't hit my goal then I compared my results in the car after class and I felt like smacking myself because I have lots of improvement all around. Plus I thought to myself well Alecia you kicked butt for 30 days straight by eating squeaky clean, doing lots of cardio which you sucked at when you first started and you got to lift some weights 3 times a week! Let me just give you a run down of what Jeff Jowers put us through for 30 days! The nutrition side was 100% squeaky clean Paleo meaning no paleoifying anything, a cardio regimen everyday that was prescribed the night before and then you have a lifting class 3 nights a week. I was only able to attend 2 nights a week because of my work schedule. 

The cardio was intense! I went from barely being able to running a mile when I started to getting up to 3 miles total by the end. Also I learned that sprinting is a great workout and I found an amazing ab circuit I will be using often. Also I did do a total of 500 in the last two weeks and in record time every time I did them. 

Now for the results from my weigh in and measurements!!! 

Weigh in 1/10/2013 @ 6:45pm 

Weight- 138lbs.
Body fat 22.2%
Chest- 37.5 inches
Stomach 31.5 inches
Hips- 39 inches
Right Thigh- 20.5 inches
Right Arm- 10.5 inches

Weigh in 2/7/2013 @ 6:52pm

Weight- 136lbs. 
Body fat- 21.1%
Chest- 35 inches
Stomach-31 inches
Hips- 37.5 inches
Right Thigh- 21 inches
Right Arm- 9.5 inches

So there you go! I will have my before & after pictures soon and will post them up as well. I am pretty happy with these results and after seeing my body change for the better again in 30 days is pretty damn amazing! The inches alone are proof that is working. I really wanted to be under 20% body fat but it will come one day! I will keep going and maybe I will be running the Tough Mudder in October which is a 10k-13k AH!

Obsessed much?

Below are pictures I use to keep my mind right! I know it sounds dumb but these little quotes and pictures people pin on Pinterest actually work for me for motivation a daily basis! Look at my fitness journal that I write in everyday to track my workouts and food intake it is covered with things that motivate me front and back!

Obsessed is a word I hear almost to often! Especially from people on Facebook, coworkers and family! It is not that I'm obsessed I am actually just dedicated to keeping my body and mind right. In a way working out and eating right is a big stress reliever for me. Well bootcamp is more of an anger management for me because I love to beat the heck out of myself and when I don't workout I get sad and off track.

I really realized the other day that I have changed and it was in the weirdest way that made me realize this. We had out monthly work meeting and the managers passed out those lets get to know what you like sheets of paper! Which asked things like what's your favorite food, drink, book, hobby etc. Of course I hate to be pain in the ass for my bosses I went a little light on my choices. I put things like drink is water, food is Mexican (when I can eat it), hobby is cooking of course (weird right) and book will have to be 50 shades cuz I'm a damn pervert. I mean you just found a lot about me right there didn't you? I'm a loser! I love water? It's the truth! I haven't had a soda in 4 weeks and this girl feels amazing! I also added my Non Paleo selection which was candy & I said almond joy! I mean it has almonds coconut and chocolate what's not to love!

Enough of me talking about my crazy self here is a yummy snack that I made for Matt the other night and it's the best thing since sliced bread! Wait that sounded wrong! Lol

Yam chips-

Ingredients-

Large Yam or sweet potato
Extra virgin olive oil
Salt & pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Wash yam.
Take a mandolins slicer (if no slicer use a knife) and slice the yam to your preference for thickness I chose the biggest my slicer will go.
Coat yam slices in Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO).
Spray a cookie sheet with EVOO
Lay out yams not overlapping each other in the greased sheet.
Season with salt and pepper if that's your preferred seasonings.
Bake for 15-25 minutes. Its really depends on the thick ones! Make sure you check on them when it gets close to 15 mins sometimes the thin ones cook fast.
Then eat!

I like to pair this with homemade salsa and it's a perfect snack!

Wow this was overdue....

I hope this post finds you all well & you're enjoying the new year with your friends and family! So far this new year for me has been pretty crazy for me from all angles of life. Work has been pretty weird one day its super slow then next I am so busy I can't even eat my food other than my lunch and that is no bueno. 




I am still attending my boot camp classes and am getting stronger everyday! I am doing a 4 week training program with my gym Jowers Training Systems that ends in on the 7th of February. It consists of me being 100% Strict Paleo (meaning no paleofying things) , drinking protein shakes twice a day (learning to love them) and doing extra cardio on top of personalized weight training & boot camp classes. So lets just say this body is pretty tired. 

Home life as being going good as well. I think I finally got my husband on board with thinking about eating better and going to the YMCA with me when we have time. He still hasn't went to the dark side with his diet like me but he tries. He still drinks milk, eats potatoes and bread but he eats whatever I make which is great. Such a trooper! I am a nice person and will make him potatoes and pasta every once in a while. My kiddo is still stuck in her ways and wont eat everything that we do but she is 6 years old what do you expect?

I have recently found some pretty upsetting news about my grandma that I am very close with. I see her usually every week and we talk all the time. She has been around me all my life and is a big part of my daughters life as well. She started feeling ill recently and went to the doctor to find out she has cervical cancer and she will not be able to have surgery because it has spread. So next week she will start Chemo & radiation treatments which my family will be helping her with including myself when I am not working. This hit me really hard because the rest of my family is pretty healthy and I still have all of my grandparents even my great grandparents on my moms side that are in their mid 90's.

After talking with my favorite cousin and doing some research it looks like carbohydrates and sugar speed up the process of cancer so I will be preaching to my family about Paleo and how important it is to have a clean diet that consists of fruits, lots of vegetable, good fat and all kinds of meat. I just don't want people to think I am crazy of course so I will go about the right way and explain my reasoning behind wanting to make sure my extended family is healthy. 

What could you live without on a daily basis? I know its a pretty big question to ask but I would like to know what you would give up to live a healthier life and not only have a better physique but FEEL better about yourself and the foods you are putting in your body. Everyone always asks me how can you not have bread, cheese & chips in your diet? It is easy work around it. There is so many things I make every week that tastes amazing but it just requires a little bit of effort. I am only human so I do have cravings for things like Chipotle Steak Burritos with rice & black beans but I get a salad without instead and it satisfies my cravings.

Love my girls

Tonight I had my amazing girlfriends over for a long over due "Paleo girls night" as I like to call them. These nights we hang out in the kitchen cook an amazing meal together and then relax and eat it! Then we talk some more and eat some more until we are all full and to sleepy to move our already sore muscles. Having this connection with these 3 ladies has really inspired me to be a better person! I feel like they have came into my life for a reason as crazy as that sounds.

For our meal we made homemade salsa, homemade sweet potato chips, ground beef taco meat & cut up some yummy avocados and yucky tomatoes ( I hate them). We also served the tacos in cabbage leaves it was so good!

After we ate way too much food we had some great girl time. Talked about our dreams, accomplishments recently and everything in between. I can truly say I care about these ladies so much and I've only known them for a few months.

Calories...

Who cares about calories! Every time I talk about something I have made or ate recently people always say "does that have a lot of calories" or " how many calories is?" Well I am very fortunate with Paleo that you don't have to count calories. Obviously I'm not out eating horrible processed foods and tones of refined sugar. If I was then I would be concerned with calories.
